Hello Mr. Rhoades - there is a Greer Garson Appreciation Page on Facebook. It has 256 members at present - from all over the world - and has more than doubled in size this year alone as more people 'found' us. We are always interested in anyone with first-hand knowledge or interactions with Greer Garson. Your comments below note that you got to know her well when you designed the GG Theater at SMU. Would you be willing to join our group or send me any reminiscences that I might post on our page? Best regards, Leslie Fox (feel free to email or message me on FB).
Impromtu speaking is perhaps not a forte. For those of you who were at "Assembly" on Saturday June 14 in the Wichita Falls High School Auditorium, this guy said what I was trying to say. He just says it better.
The Bridge Builder
Will A. Dromgoole
An old man going a lone highway,
Came, at the evening cold and gray,
To a chasm vast and deep and wide.
Through which was flowing a sullen tide
The old man crossed in the twilight dim,
The sullen stream had no fear for him;
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.
“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,
“You are wasting your strength with building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day,
You never again will pass this way;
You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build this bridge at evening tide?”
The builder lifted his old gray head;
“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
“There followed after me to-day
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been as naught to me
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”
And while we cannot, nor should we wish to, make life "easy" for our progeny nor anyone else's, there is a magical amount of help that is "just right" for each kid. I hope our new Coyote Connection Fund can provide some of that magic amount in the years to come to some deserving kids.
It was a great weekend. Wishing you all "Happy Trails".
Having been involved in this reunion for a little over a year now, the greatest joy I've had lies in the knowledge that a group of disparate (and old?) people can come together and work together for a common purpose. What a great example for any community, organization, or country.
Due to health problems, I don't think I will be able to make it to the reunion, but would like to send greetings to all. Wish I could see and visit every one.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in June. Since hearing from Claudia and becoming active on face book site, I have had interaction with my fellow coyote alums that bring back fond memories of WFHS. I am so grateful for the educational foundation I received and the friends I made in those years. Some of us have kept in touch over the years, but it will be good to see the casual friends from classes again. It is hard to believe that 50 years have passed. Thanks so much for the work that has been done to make this reunion a reality.
You are SOooooooo right about the two beautiful daughters. The other daughter was Kathy. I know - I think I was lucky enough to get exactly one date with her!
Several years ago I designed the Greer Garson Theatre at SMU, and in the process I got to know Greer Garson quite well. She won the Academy Award for Mrs. Miniver in 1941, but her favorite film was Random Harvest.
I have lots of stories about Greer. E-mail me sometime and I will share them with you.
Dear Mr.Powell: I just emailed the high school you attended and I'm not sure you will receive my message. There are two hundred and fifty six members of the Greer Garson appreciation page on Facebook. We would love to hear your many stories regarding this icon of a woman whom we cherish. Won't you join this Facebook page and enlighten us with your remembrances. sincerely, Gail Gersh
That is fasinating, Milton... not just meeting Greer Garson, but your work as well! Like John Rhoades, I love old movies, but especially the "fluff" romantic ones from the 60's with Doris Day and Sandra Dee. I miss the old star system from the 40's and feel overexposed to the foibles of modern "stars" who are more like starlets to me, void of mystique.
